Descend this! Vertigo? Fuggitaboutit. Don't let the first thirty miles fool you. You'll need low-4, high clearance, tough cleats and a whole lotta heart to finish Smoky Mountain Road. This trip due south through the Staircase-Escalante National Monument is not recommended for beginners. A Category #8 rock crawl through a tough gully system and a descent with three hundred foot drops await anyone who tries it. This trip is $9.95.
