Mengel Pass is found in the very southwest corner of Death Valley National Park. It is approachable from both the east by way of Warm Springs Canyon and the west by way of Goler Canyon. What awaits the traveler in Goler Canyon we can't say. We never made it over the pass! Stopped our Tacoma XCab dead. So close, but no cigar. Pictured here is the last section of Striped Butte Valley, the length of which is crossed on Category 4 - 5 loose rock. It is the domain of a fairly large herd of wild burro. The alfa Jack let us know too. Warm Springs Canyon Road is found at the southern teminus of West Side Road and is an easy jaunt up to the camp, Cat 4-5 immediately thereafter. Total trip approximately 24 miles.
